GrowCampadvantages:

Raised vegetable garden:

In your raised bed vegetable garden, you can achieve four times the yield of a traditional vegetable garden.
This is mainly due to:
1) In the raised bed garden, the soil is looser because it is not trampled. The roots of the plants grow more easily downwards, rather than outwards, which brings the plants closer together and increases your harvest.
2) Good humus soil poured into the vegetable garden will be loose, retain moisture from the start, and encourage the development of earthworms and essential microorganisms that will help preserve the good structure of the soil for years to come.
3) Open at the bottom, your vegetable garden will evacuate water more easily. The soil, better oxygenated, will allow the first plantings in early spring.

Protective netting

One of the important advantages of a raised bed garden is that it is not necessary to use pesticides.
The protective net effectively prevents insects, rodents and other pests from attacking the crops and limits the presence of your pets, dogs, cats, ... sometimes very destructive for vegetable gardens.
Less attacked, your growing space requires no chemical input, perfectly healthy and entirely organic.

Greenhouse

The plastic covering film protects against the cold and the small night frosts and thus generates a greenhouse effect, considerably lengthening the growing period.
By the end of April or the beginning of May, you can harvest your first potatoes and enjoy your first salad.
Once you have harvested your first potatoes, radishes and lettuce, you will be able to pick up your peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers.
Greenhouse plants thrive in an elevated garden because they are better ventilated than in a traditional greenhouse. an important reason for this is that ventilation can be regulated by the flexibility of the plastic film walls. these can be rolled up completely to let the cool wind flow through when it is hot.

Light and temperature

The raised bed is heated more quickly by the sun, because the soil is above the normal soil level and is heated on top and at the sides. The temperature of the soil is essential for the growth of the plants. A few extra degrees will significantly extend the growing season.

The Soil

Quantity of soil per bed (120 x 120 cm) = 0,65 m3 = 650 liters = about 13 bags of 50 liters (depending on the consistency). The bed should be filled almost to the top with soil. Once the soil is in place, leave a space of 5 cm from the edge, which is ideal.

Cover

GrowCamp is equipped with plastic gables. The walls are made of a pest-proof net on the inside and a plastic film on the outside. Velcro strips are mounted on the sides and bottom of the net and plastic film. The net should normally only be pulled up when gardening in the bed or harvesting.
The plastic film stays in place day and night during the coldest months of the year, but as soon as the sun gets more present, the greenhouse heats up very quickly, so it is necessary to roll up the plastic walls during the day.

Location

Your GrowCamp raised bed can be placed anywhere, in the garden, on a terrace, etc. If the ground is sloping, you can bury part of the bed so that it is horizontal.
Even in a windy area, the plants are protected by modulating the effects of the plastic protection film.
The platform must be placed in good conditions of sunlight and luminosity.
If the garden layout allows it, it is recommended to position the GrowCamp with the gables facing East/West. In this way, the nets on the walls will face south and protect the plants from sunlight.

Wind and weather

GrowCamp is designed to withstand virtually all types of weather. The guy wires attached between the cover and the platform hold the top in place, and the soil on the platform acts as ballast.
There is no need to remove the cover or the greenhouse walls in winter. If you still want to remove the plastic cover for the winter, it is advisable to remove the net as well, as the snow it tends to hold could damage it.
