Product details

Basil simplicity for unrivalled fragrance and flavor!

Basil Simple Grand Vert is a classic variety with a well-balanced taste, producing dark green, spoon-shaped leaves about 4 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. The plant has a bushy habit and grows to a height of around 50 cm.

Simple Grand Vert basil leaves are highly fragrant.

Sowing advice :

Basil needs a constant minimum of 20°C to germinate, so sow on a warm bed or in a heated greenhouse. Start your seedlings in early spring in pots, choosing a good, fine potting soil.

Don't press the seeds down, but lightly pack the potting soil into the cups or tray, then lightly brush the surface with your fingers. Place the seeds, sprinkle a little soil on top if necessary, then press firmly.

Water with a spray bottle until the seeds germinate. Be careful, too much moisture could melt your seedlings. Emergence takes 6 to 8 days on average.

Place your terrine or greenhouse near a bright window.

Planting in the garden :

Plant your basil seedlings after the last frosts in May, when they have reached the 3-4 leaf stage. Wait until June if you're north of the Loire. Plant in well-drained, rich soil in a sunny position. You can add a little manure.

Leave 50 cm between each plant. Water without wetting the foliage and without excess.

Harvesting :

Harvest leaves in May and June just before flowering for maximum fragrance, but you can harvest all year round as long as the plant has leaves. The more leaves you harvest, the more the plant will grow.

To store your basil, chop the leaves and place them in ice cube trays filled with water, or preserve them in olive oil.

Tip:

Plant basil between tomato plants to protect them from certain pests. All basil plants can be grown in pots, window boxes or balconies.
