The eggplant Solanum melongena L. is native to India.
The Barbentane variety is early, with elongated fruits (22 cm) of excellent gustatory quality.
Dark purple in color, at maturity it has a green calyx.
Very sunny exposure, and a lot of heat from plantation to harvest.
