Tomato seeds San Marzano - La Semence Bio
The San Marzano tomato, originally from the foothills of the Andes, was introduced to French kitchen gardens in the 18th century. Scientifically known as Lycopersicon esculentum L., this variety of tomato is appreciated for its oblong red shape, measuring 9 cm in length and displaying remarkable firmness, with an average weight of 100 g. It is renowned for its exceptional taste and incomparable sweetness.
San Marzano stands out for its vigor and high productivity, making it an ideal choice for home-grown tomato lovers. To ensure optimal growth, soil preparation is crucial. Opt for fresh, potash-rich soil, fertilizing in autumn to ensure an adequate nutrient base. Sunny exposure and regular watering are also essential.
San Marzano can be sown from February to May, at a depth of 1 cm in a terrine. Transplant the seedlings 8 weeks after sowing, burying them 2 cm below the collar. Before planting, be sure to install stakes to support plant growth. The recommended planting density is 45 x 75 cm.
Seed emergence takes 8-10 days in soil maintained at 18°C. Delicious San Marzano tomatoes can be harvested from July to the end of October.
