Chantenay red heart carrot: simple and easy to grow!
The root of the Chantenay Red Heart 2 carrot is voluminous, with sweet, red flesh. It thrives even in clay soils, making it an ideal choice for outdoor cultivation champ. Here are sowing tips for different seasons:
Spring sowing:
Sow from March to June for a summer harvest.
Summer sowing :
Sow from May to July for harvest from early autumn to winter.
Autumn sowing :
Plan to sow in September/October for harvest the following spring.
Sowing under cover :
In November, in mild climates and under cover. In case of intense cold, cover with a forcing veil to protect young plants.
Sowing advice:
Sow lightly in rows 25 to 30 cm apart in rich, loosened soil in a sunny position.
Thin out first at 4 or 5 leaves to 2 or 3 cm, then to 7/8 cm to leave sufficient space for the roots.
You can combine carrots with radishes, which means you don't have to thin the carrot row several times. What's more, radishes keep red spiders away, making them an excellent companion for carrots.
