Courge Petite Sucrée: a golden delight to be enjoyed without moderation

Immerse yourself in the gourmet world of Petite Sucrée squash, a runner variety that will seduce you with its firm, sweet flesh, ideal for a multitude of recipes from gratins to jams.

Growing guide

Sowing: In April, prepare your pots and place them in a bright spot at a minimum temperature of 12°C. Place the seeds on edge and keep the soil moist without excess water.

Transplanting: From mid-May onwards, transplant your plants to a sunny spot in the open ground. For non-running varieties, space them about 1 metre apart in all directions, while for running varieties, opt for a spacing of 1.20 metres between rows and 2 metres between rows. Don't forget to water regularly and add compost to encourage growth.

Care: Pinch stems to stimulate growth, and hoe and weed regularly. Mulching around the plants will help limit weeds and keep the soil moist. Water at the base without wetting the foliage, especially in summer.

Good associations

Avoid planting next to potatoes, but favor proximity to beans and cabbage, which are good companions for Petite Sucrée squash.

Common problems and solutions

If your pumpkin plant doesn't produce flowers or fruit, it may be due to hot weather or a lack of pollination. Attract pollinators by sowing floral mixes near your cucurbit crops to encourage fruiting.

Harvesting and storage

Harvesting generally takes place between September and November, with particular attention paid to the stalk, which becomes corky when the fruit is ready. Cut the fruit as close as possible to the stem and leave to dry in the sun for a day, before storing in a dry, well-ventilated place at a temperature of between 12 and 20°C.

Dive into autumn with Petite Sucrée squash, a golden nugget to be enjoyed all season long!
