Product details

Growing Tatsoi cabbage: an easy and delicious adventure

Tatsoi cabbage, with its thick, spoon-shaped green leaves, is a variety of Chinese cabbage that adds an exotic touch to your vegetable garden. Easy to grow and cold-hardy, it offers an abundant harvest of tender, flavorful young shoots, perfect for use in a variety of Asian and other dishes.

Tatsoi cabbage plants, measuring between 20 and 30 cm in height, form attractive rosettes of deep, dense green leaves. This hardy variety is known for its resistance to cold, making it an excellent choice for gardens exposed to cooler temperatures.

Sowing and planting

Sowing: Sow in March-April under cover or in a nursery from May to July. Sow seeds 0.5 to 1 cm deep in well-prepared soil and keep moist until germination.

Transplanting: When the plants have developed 4 leaves, transplant them into the ground, spacing them about 25 cm apart in all directions. Choose a sunny spot with deep, cool soil for optimum growth.

Harvest

Young Tatsoi cabbage shoots can be harvested as quickly as 21 days after sowing, while mature leaves can be harvested after around 45-50 days. Harvest the leaves as you need them, cutting them close to the base of the plant.

Culinary uses

The tender, flavorful leaves of Tatsoi cabbage can be used in many ways:

In salads, to add a touch of freshness and crunch.
In soups and broths, to enrich flavors and add texture.
In Asian dishes such as stir-fries, stews and casseroles, for an exotic, delicious touch.
