Product details

Tabasco pepper - Very hot variety

The Tabasco pepper is a very strong variety, with a Scoville rating of 9/10, corresponding to 30,000-50,000 units. Vigorous and robust, this pepper produces numerous small, conical fruits measuring 3 to 5 cm in length and growing vertically. Each plant can bear around a hundred peppers, which turn from green to orange to red as they ripen. Their flavor fumwith notes of celery and onion.

Tabasco Pepper uses

Tabasco pepper can be used fresh, dried or ground. It is the main ingredient in the famous Tabasco sauce from Louisiana.

Growing conditions for Tabasco chillies

Tabasco peppers require a lot of heat for their development and are therefore recommended for regions with hot summers or well-exposed gardens. In frost-free regions, plants can be kept for several years.

How to sow Tabasco Peppers

Sowing time: February-March
Sowing method: Sow in cups of fine sowing compost in a greenhouse heated to 25°C. Peppers need high temperatures and a little (but not excessive) humidity to germinate. Germination takes about 10 to 21 days.
Transplanting: In May, in deep, loose soil, in a warm, sunny spot, sheltered from the sun vents. Space plants 50 cm apart in all directions. Hoe, water and mulch.
Greenhouse growing: Recommended if you don't live in a warm region.

Good combinations

Chillies like to grow alongside other solanaceous plants such as Peruvian cockroaches, nightshades, peppers and tomatoes.

Harvesting chillies

Harvesting: 5 to 6 months after sowing, when peppers are fully ripe. Pick as needed or dry in the sun or oven.
