Product details

Tomate Ananas Noir - Large fruit variety

The Black Pineapple tomato is a mid-season variety with an indeterminate habit, producing large, fleshy, multicolored fruits. Selected in Belgium, this unique tomato's fruits range from dark green to orange, with green and yellow marbled flesh and pink streaks. Best eaten raw, in salads.

This variety of tomato produces large, fleshy fruits, ranging in color from dark green to orange to very dark red. The flesh, marbled green and yellow with pink stripes, is not only aesthetically pleasing but also delicious. This is a mid-season variety, ripening 60 to 80 days after flowering, with indeterminate growth and average productivity.

Sowing and planting

Sowing period: February to April

Sowing method: Sow in warm soil (20°C) or in pots indoors or in a heated greenhouse, in fine sowing compost. Bury seeds 1 cm deep, then cover with potting soil. Water with a sprayer to keep the potting soil moist but not soggy. Place the terrine near a window to prevent the seedlings from drifting towards the light.

Transplanting: When frosts are no longer a concern and seedlings are 12-15 cm tall, transplant into rich, loose, healthy soil. Space plants 70 cm apart between rows and 50 cm apart in rows, in a sunny position. Put stakes in place before planting and water abundantly at the base once a week to prevent the development of disease.

Tomato pruning

Pruning can increase fruit size and earliness, but is not compulsory. If you choose to prune, use maerl or green clay to help the plants heal. Alternatively, you can leave the plants to develop fully, requiring more space (1 m between each plant) and producing smaller but more numerous fruit. Another method is to lead the plants on two strands, removing the suckers after pinching the plant 20 cm from the ground.

Harvesting and care

Harvesting: 4 to 5 months after sowing, when the tomatoes are fully ripe. Pick as needed or dry in the sun or oven.

Common problems: To prevent mildew, protect your plants in rainy regions and use a Bordeaux mixture-based treatment. To prevent apical necrosis (black-bottom), ensure adequate calcium intake and water regularly.
